What’s a good style of Chinese Martial arts to train in?

I have been wanting to train in Chinese martial arts. I’ve even dreamed about traveling to China to train but I don’t know what styles, schools, masters to train under. Right now I’m focusing on Tai Chi but I want to do more. How hard is it going to be? Especially for a girl.

I love Chinese martial arts! Any one you join will be great if you can get a good traditional teacher. If you get the chance to go to China, go. It will be the time of your life. There are a lot of traditional schools that organize training trips to China and most will take “outsiders” (people who are not their students) along. Chenjiagou is great. There are about 3000 people living in the village and a Tai Chi school on every corner, just about. Check it out

Chinese martial art if taught correctly is more complicated and takes longer to learn. Don’t let that frustrate you. The benefits are great. A lot of time is spent on conditioning and strength building even in Tai Chi. Traditional Tai Chi as it is taught in China is not a stretching excercise but a serious martial art with fighting competitions. I love it because it is the most deceptive thing I have seen in the hands of a master and since you are a girl deception will give you an edge.
Since you are already in Tai Chi stick with that before starting something else. Get a Tai Chi magazine subscription. They can help you find out who is a well known master and schools. I would also recommend the book “The Dao of Taijiquan Way to Rejuvenation” by Jou, Tsung Hwa. It will give you the basic principles of Tai Chi and much more.
This will keep you going for a while, I think.
